My History
The Beginning
I was born in 1979, the son of an orthopedic surgeon and an ICU nurse. While many in my family naturally gravitated towards healthcare, I sought a different path, drawn to the allure of experimentation. From an early age, I indulged my interests in music, graphic arts, and storytelling. I vividly remember my foray into photography, which often ended with me 'screwing up' entire rolls of film, much to my mother's chagrin. I also dabbled in video production, creating skate videos with friends using a painstaking process of linear editing with 2 VCRs. It was challenging, frustrating, and undeniably fun.
Getting Serious
I've been in the video market since 1997 when we founded "Grupo de Análises Productions," myself, Caio Castanho Girardi, and a few other friends. We focused on producing "journalistic" stories that were primarily aired on low-budget television shows, particularly in Paraná state, where there was a culture of independent and local television channels. Our main content revolved around crime reports, specifically minor threats like scams and robberies. These reports were structured with a call to action, a reenactment, an interview with a police officer, and a conclusion. It was a straightforward yet engaging format, both in production and viewership.
So, I've started to focus on edition and photography study. But the systematic study may be heartbreaking to the job. And it hitted hard. While working on this projects I've graduated in the São Paulo University Veterinary college, career that I did not follow.

We found inspiration in the Brazilian yellow press of the late 80s and early 90s, such as the 'Aqui Agora' television show/news and Alborghetti, known for his unfiltered style. Our work brought us into contact with various eccentric personalities, including Inri Cristo, often dubbed the most famous Brazilian 'wannabe Jesus reincarnation,' and Toninho do Diabo, Inri's colorful nemesis. Our productions spanned a wide range of tragicomic works, with a particular focus on the comedic.
The Midpoint Reversal
Also, what wasn't amusing were the differences with a business partner who aimed for more sensationalist material, prioritizing less production and grand sequences to bypass the editing process in an attempt to maximize profit, at the expense of quality. In pursuit of greater impact, we began covering more shocking crimes like murders, which became depressing. While we were searching for stories like the generic "winning ticket scam," we had the ability to spin them into tales with a humorous angle that didn't align with the standards of real journalistic coverage of a murder.
The enjoyment stemmed from the production and acting in reenactments that culminated in slapstick comedy. It was a delicate balance between seriousness and humor, as the "police department is a comedy and drama's stage." However, when the direction shifted towards long sequences and dark crimes to reduce editing and increase runtime, the fun dissipated.
On one side were those who aimed to produce humorous, intriguing, and narrative-driven content. On the other side, there was a push for shock value. This reflected a clear trend in Brazilian television, where presenters like João Kleber, known for his ability to captivate and entertain audiences for hours, promising big news but often failing to deliver, were gaining prominence on Rede TV channel. Unfortunately, my side lost the tug of war, and I parted ways with the company around 2004.Back to the Track
So, I shifted my focus to studying and producing more educational and constructive materials. My undergraduate thesis revolved around my work at the Museum of Veterinary Anatomy of São Paulo University (Museu de Anatomia Veterinária da USP).
During this time, I founded FastForward Videos, an indie production company. I worked on several institutional projects for governmental agencies such as UNIFESP, MEC, and even at FMVZ-USP, on a cat husbandry PhD project.
My work received recognition from some institutions. My co-director and friend, Caio Castanho Girardi, and I were nominated in the "Best Adaptation to Another Language" category of the HQ-MIX award for our featurette documentary "Quanta - Academia de Artes." In this documentary, we interviewed some of the most prominent Brazilian illustrators about the Quanta art school, whose history intertwines with the evolution of the market and the technical quality of Brazilian comic artists.
The Present Days
After a trip through Southeast Asia and two trips through New York where I had contact with the Asia Society and Museum, Rubin Museum of Art and the asian collection of the Metropolitan Museum I marveled at the cultural differences and similarities between the West and the East.
After 10 years with FFWD, I made the decision to close that chapter and moved to Japan, where I spent 5 fulfilling years. Now, I'm based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, eagerly exploring new opportunities to connect businesses with their audiences, with a special focus on those targeting Brazilians.
